dr0negods • 7 mo. ago. gotta make sure the controller is plugged in and working before you launch steam VR. by which I mean launch steam vr and launch NMS from within it, not from the desktop app. when the mode select screen comes up put down your motion controllers and pick up the gamepad - see if you can move the cursor with the left stick.
I just installed my nintendo switch pro controller to my pc and set it up with big picture mode which supports NMS (alledgedly) but all my buttons in game have a large yellow triangle with a ! in the middle instead of the button that should be mapped to it (Y,X,B,A,etc buttons). The controller otherwise works great in game and controls are good, I just cant figure out how to fix the graphic
EDIT: The game has a three modes of movement - walk, run & sprint. Running is the default, while sprinting is "shift". In order to walk you must nudge the controller's left stick gently. Auto-walk isn't walk. It is a misnomer of auto-run that's been in the game since before the implementation of a third-person camera. The Plum Gate May 5, 2019 @ 10:15am. If you run your DS4 controller via USB, go into the steam controller options and uncheck everything except generic controller support. Start using the controller in game and it will be detected properly ( as a default NMS on PS4 controller binding ). Icons should be correct also. Power cycle your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. Once the console powers down, unplug the console’s power cable for 30 seconds, and then plug the console back in. Press the Xbox button to restart the console. If your controller still won’t connect to your console after power
select the Recommended tab at the top. select the proper Official Configuration for No Man's Sky that matches your controller. hit the A button to select that config. hit the X button to apply that config. hit B for done and to back out - this returns you to the game. now your controller should be using the latest layout template and everything
Fully log out and exit Steam > Unplug controller > Re plug in controller > Start steam > Start up NMS. This method worked for me first try. My Thrustmaster GPX isn't being recognized by Steam anymore and won't work on NMS (though it works on everything else). I had to hook up my PS4 controller.
