Beginners normally practice in the ski schools and at the Krumpwasser, Wiesen and Mahdstuhl lifts. More advanced beginners can also tackle the easy slopes from the Festkogl down to Obergurgl. The slopes on the Wurmkogl and at the Kirchenkarbahn are almost all very suitable for beginners. The runs lead down over wide and easy slopes to the valleys.
St. Anton am Arlberg is a fantastic place for paragliding. The take-off spot at the top of the Kapallbahn ski lift at 2,330 metres above sea level is known and loved by paragliders in the region. There are two paragliding centres in St. Anton offering tandem flights – from easy cruising for beginners to long flights up to 3,300 metres above 11. St. Anton, Austria St. Anton. A legendary name in the hearts of skiers, St. Anton is where the first ski club in the Alps began in 1901. Its 280 kilometers of terrain at heights reaching 2,800 meters are no place for beginners, or even most intermediates, as they include some of the most challenging runs anywhere in the Alps.
Adventures for freeriders: an extraordinary variety of backcountry options. Unique high-altitude adventures: heli-skiing to Mehlsack (2.652 m) and to Schneetäli (2.450 m) (only possible in Lech Zürs – unique in Austria!) Little ones play a big role: numerous first-rate ski schools and 3 diverse children's areas in Lech, Oberlech and Zürs.
Beginners: St. Anton has a very experienced, professional ski school and the nursery slopes are conveniently placed in Nasserein, 5 minutes from the centre. Intermediates: The choice of blue and red runs is plentiful on the Galzig and Gampen and better skiers will enjoy the demanding descents from the Valluga.
St Anton is the top Austrian resort and has some good and bad points. Austria is cheaper than France/Switz but St A is getting more expensive than a couple of years back. It has never been a budget holiday but you can drink/lunch in St A or Lech for the same price or less than London. Fabulous food and wine.
