I'm a CS student and I went for the 16" just because i think a bigger display will be a better option for writing code and developing application, and ofc u get better base specs compared to the 14" MacBook. And don't forget the fact that the 16" has also a better battery life. 4.
Any MacBook is great for tasks like compiling (lots of processor). If you want the advice of a 41-year experience coder: drop Java like it's a bag of bricks.
